The GASP radio show (that's Gothic, Alternative, Steampunk and Progressive) has been on the air for two years, building on its predecessor, CPR, which ran from June 11 until November 13. We broadcast every Thursday evening between 8 and 11pm (UK time), with a repeat on Saturday mornings between 7 and 10am.
Not only do we play the above mentioned genres (that’s myself and my co-host LM Cooke), we also play a fair amount of cabaret, folk-horror, metal and carnival, concentrating on the new, the independent, the alternative, whilst always ensuring there's a few tracks from well known artists. We run a facebook event for each show, whilst tweeting what we're playing simultaneously (we know facebook is not everyone's cup of tea) and get lively interaction, often with some of the musicians themselves joining/listening in.
We actively support and promote Steampunk and alternative acts, giving early or even first airplay to acts such as Metropolis and Gurdybird. We do special events, including interviews with authors, makers and other creative people and we support bands with launches via the show. We aim to support independent writers, publishers and artists as well as musicians and will also promote independent or charity events via the show.
(LM Cooke is singer in Crimson Clocks, hence the tie-in).
The second ‘Raising Steam’ download is currently in production, featuring such diverse alternative bands as Ghostfire, BB BlackDog, The New Jacobin Club and The Wattingers amongst many others.
